Our History

Tim's brother  Tom is a degreed commercial artist and is, in many ways, largely responsible for the founding of The Maker's Image.  It was Tom's artistic talents that were going largely unused that prompted the two brothers to search for a business arrangement that could put their combined talents to use and provide an artistic outlet for everyone involved.

Tom's desire to build and market table-top fountains prompted Tim and Andrea to begin to explore ideas to help produce and market Tom's creations.  The need for custom-made, inexpensive, and easily obtainable bowls (fountain bases) sparked an old interest in ceramics that was shared by both Tim and Andrea.  They had been looking for a constructive and enjoyable hobby that they could share together when Tim hit upon the idea of using some pottery making skills to help Tom and provide them with the hobby they were looking for.

Tim had taken a ceramics course in college, and Andrea had some training in high school.  They decided to take an evening course together in pottery making to see whether they still enjoyed it (and how much they remembered!)   The class was wonderful and soon they'd purchased a small kiln and a used electric wheel and were well on their way.

Though things were a bit slow going at first due to other commitments from work and the arrival of their first child (Daniel), the hobby soon grew to a small business and has continued to grow steadily.  Though still connected to Tom's fountain making, the pottery studio quickly became a separate interest and business in its own right.  It was during these early stages that Tom actually came up with the name "The Maker's Image".  It was an immediate hit and has remained with the business ever since.

While still small in both size and scope, the business has recently begun to expand more rapidly as Tim & Andrea began to offer classes and allow others to use their studio and equipment.  Thus far, it's been an exciting and enjoyable adventure for all involved.  And all are eagerly looking forward to discovering what the future holds as the business and the "hobby" of The Maker's Image continue to move forward.
